Ontario
A vast array of gambling options can be found in Ontario, such as casinos, lotteries, horse racing, and provincially-operated sports betting lotteries with a growing online presence. Sports and Gambling betting enthusiasts can take advantage of a number of sports , poker and online gaming betting sites that are operated.
However, the present government monopoly on gaming and sports betting, which is regulated by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, forbids the operation of privately-owned online and casinos, poker rooms and sportsbooks, with the exclusion of First Nations-owned/operated online casinos.
In the Province of Ontario, gaming and sports betting are legally regulated by the Gambling Control Act, which came into force in 1992 to control the growth of the gaming industry in the state, and cleared the way for the introduction of this state’s first land-based casinos in Niagara Falls and Windsor.
Gambling laws in Ontario are enforced by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, which has been created by the Province of Ontario in 1998 to control the sale, consumption and service of alcoholic drinks, and ensure that casino and charitable gaming is conducted in a way that is socially responsible, and also in the public interest.
